Lake Anne Logo Options Survey
Lake Anne Logo Options Survey
We want to hear your thoughts on logo options for the Lake Anne Village Center (LAVC) area!
Fairfax County is developing a wayfinding strategy and new signage logo for the LAVC area. The strategy is to create better visibility and brand recognition and make it easier to navigate and find destinations within the LAVC area. The goal would be to have a unified signage system throughout the area. However, most of the proposed sign locations are on private property and will require investment and implementation on the part of the owner. The exceptions to this plan are two signs that would be in the public right-of-way. One is on the median on Baron Cameron Avenue (plan map item A), and the other is on the median on North Village (plan map item B). These signs would be paid for and installed by Fairfax County.

Based on the public feedback provided earlier this year regarding Lake Anne’s existing logo and branding, four refreshed logo concepts were developed. Each concept reflects elements of the history and character of LAVC while putting an updated twist on the branding. We would like the community’s input on these logos to determine which they think best reflects the LAVC area.
Please review the four concepts and submit your thoughts. Thank you once again for your time and input.
Survey Questions:
Based on the feedback received regarding the existing Lake Anne logo, the takeaways are the following:
- Create a logo that respects the history and architecture of our site, with a fresh lens
- Pay homage to the historic fountain plaza in a fun yet modern manner
- Stay grounded in the site's brutalist roots, and honor our community spirit
- Explore new color palettes that nod to our past while feeling like a natural next step
Logo Concept Option 1
Channeling the 'splash' element in Lake Anne’s existing logo, this option reimagines the previous playful-yet-historic icon with a modern lens. It nods to 1960s mod design, while the curved L form echoes the site’s distinctive architectural lines. The result is a fresh yet familiar symbol that bridges past and present.
- Reimagines the 'splash' element from the existing logo
- The cascading version of the logo evokes cascading water, another nod to the iconic fountain
- The curved 'L' is a nod to the J-Block architecture
- The color palette is an updated take on some of the colors in the existing logo
Logo Concept Option 2
This logo draws from the site’s brutalist architectural elements, like the modular signage along its walkways. It reflects the neighborhood’s strength, history, and character — a grounded, enduring presence with design touches that celebrate its storied past. The design honors a place built to last, both in form and in community spirit.
- Inspired by original, modular Lake Anne signage
- Rounded letterforms balance and soften the blocky logo; the shape of the 'A's and 'K' echo the existing logo’s font
- The colorful, modular grid system creates flexibility for displaying information and for developing patterns
- A bright and friendly color palette, the orange is inspired by the whimsical, oversized icons outside of Lakeside Pharmacy in the 1960s
Logo Concept Option 3
Inspired by the iconic plaza fountain, this design reflects the community's midcentury style as well as the curves of the plaza's celebrated architecture. The typography reflects the neighborhood's bold, brutalist forms in an elevated and modern way. This logo celebrates an evolving story shaped by time and community.
- A midcentury-inspired take on the iconic plaza fountain; the water spouting out also mimics the shape of the J-Block
- The fountain icon can be used alone or turned into a dynamic and playful pattern
- The font strikes a balance between bold and elegant, vintage and modern
- The colors are an evolution of the existing brand colors, with a more grounded green, a deeper blue, and a pop of marigold
Logo Concept Option 4
This option is inspired by the waves of the lake at the heart of the Lake Anne Village Center and is intended to make the logo design elegant and timeless.
- The wave logo evokes the lakefront with a midcentury flair
- The typeface is a playful twist on a classic and elegant font
- A bright and modern blue tie it all together
