My Brother's Keeper Fairfax - Strategy Inventory
My Brother's Keeper Fairfax - Strategy Inventory
In 2014, President Obama launched My Brother’s Keeper as a White House Initiative to address the persistent opportunity gaps that boys and young men of color face and to ensure all young people can reach their full potential. Today, the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBKA) is a program of the Obama Foundation that seeks to unleash the power of communities that work together to solve problems that will improve real-life outcomes for boys and young men of color. Fairfax County accepted the challenge to join the alliance and to improve outcomes for boys and young men of color in 2023.
MBKA’s work is rooted in six key life milestones that research shows are predictive of later success, and where interventions can have the greatest impact. By focusing on these milestones, doing what works, and removing or avoiding roadblocks that hinder systems change, they are working to provide boys and young men of color the opportunity and the tools to get ahead.
We know our community is contributing to some or all of the milestones identified. However, we do not have a collective view of those strategies. Please use this inventory exercise to identify the specific strategies that your organization is involved in that can contribute to moving the needle on outcomes for the MBK Milestones. By capturing the collective effort, we all will gain an awareness of what is taking place, what is working, what can be scaled, and what gaps exist towards achieving the MBK milestones in Fairfax.
Even if your work is not currently focused on boys and young men of color, we still want to learn about the strategies your organization is using to influence outcomes related to the six milestones.
