Falls Church Affordable Housing Community Input
Falls Church Affordable Housing Community Input
The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority and Fairfax County Government have established the goal of creating 10,000 new units of affordable housing by the year 2034 and to preserve the county's existing stock of affordable housing. While this does include development and preservation of properties owned by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority, much of this work is undertaken through private development with significant public resources applied by the county in the form of financing assistance and the contribution of public land.
Property at 5827 Columbia Pike in Falls Church (Mason District) is being considered for affordable housing. What does that mean and what are the opportunities in Falls Church? The community is invited to attend two engagement sessions to first learn about the project and then share input about a potential affordable housing development. Join us to find out about why affordable housing matters!

Events
1. Preferred Use of Non-Residential Space:
What types of non-residential/community services do you believe would best serve the community in the available ground-level space? Think about services that might be lacking or new businesses that would make your day-to-day life easier or more enjoyable.
(Examples: non-profit/health clinics/counseling services, cultural hubs, community centers, fitness centers, educational centers, and neighborhood serving retail).
a) Are there any essential services or businesses that the community currently lacks?
b) What kinds of businesses or services do you think would create a positive social and economic impact on the neighborhood?
2. Transportation and Green Space:
How do you currently use transportation in this area? New road connections are proposed around the property. How might they impact your daily routine?
a) What types of transportation (walking, cycling, public transport, cars) do you most often rely on?
b) How important is having road access compared to having more green space in the neighborhood?
3. Community Amenity Preferences:
As we plan the new development, we want to include amenities that will benefit the wider community. What types of amenities or features would you like to see in the development? Consider amenities that can be shared with the community residents (Examples such as community room, playground, outdoor green spaces/seating area/walking trail).
a) What types of amenities would benefit not only the residents of the building but also the larger community?
b) How important are shared spaces to you and your neighbors?
