Franconia-Springfield Planning Study Development Ideas
Share your thoughts on development ideas for the future of Franconia-Springfield!
As part of the ongoing Franconia-Springfield Planning Study, development ideas for the future of the Franconia-Springfield area have been created with initial community feedback. Please review the ideas and submit your feedback to help guide future changes and improvements for the next 20 years or more.
The Franconia-Springfield Planning Study is reviewing and updating the Comprehensive Plan for the Franconia-Springfield Transit Station Area (TSA) and Springfield Community Business Center (CBC). The Comprehensive Plan is the county’s guiding document for land use and development decisions. In April 2023, the Board authorized a Comprehensive Plan study for the Springfield area to consider the recommendations from the Springfield Market Study. The adopted Springfield Plan contains a framework for land use, transportation, parks, revitalization, and other topics, however, the Plan has not been fully reviewed in more than 15 years.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to share your thoughts with us. This survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Guiding Principles and Vision Statement

Community feedback on the current principles and vision was gathered during the fall 2025 open house and online survey. Then, community feedback was used to create new proposed guiding principles and a new proposed vision statement, which are available for review online.
Transportation Network
The map below shows the existing street network in solid lines and the potential future street network in dashed lines. Future development will integrate new streets and blocks that help make the area more connected.
Main ideas of the proposed transportation network include:
- A network of pedestrian-scaled and walkable streets and blocks
- Strengthened connectivity to transit facilities
- Enhanced streetscape to provide comfort and promote walking
Note: The proposed street grid may change based on the results of the transportation study.
