Fairfax Center Area Planning Study, Phase III and Government Center Visioning
Fairfax Center Area Planning Study, Phase III and Government Center Visioning
Fairfax County is reviewing its long-range land use plan for the Fairfax Center Area. The current phase – Phase III – focuses on the central core area which includes the county’s Government Center, Fair Oaks Mall, and other commercial and residential developments. The study will refine the county’s plan for the core area as a mixed use, walkable and active community with access to transit and other amenities.
The county’s vision for the Government Center campus is also under review. County-wide changes in the nearly 40 years since the Government Center was developed include a new Countywide Strategic Plan, new land use planning for the surrounding area, and the adoption of a new racial and social equity policy, One Fairfax. The Government Center Visioning process will examine how the campus can continue to provide a high level of service.
Public involvement is essential in shaping how the area develops, and we welcome your feedback. Your responses will help create scenarios for potential future development, and help staff better understand services and amenities the study should consider.
Stay tuned for additional public engagement opportunities over the next year by bookmarking our project webpage or subscribing to the county’s mailing list on Comprehensive Plan Amendments.
