Background

As pickleball continues to grow in popularity across Fairfax County, the Park Authority is exploring ways to enhance recreational offerings and provide additional facilities. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback during the public comment period. Based on community input and careful evaluation, the Fairfax County Park Authority will move forward with constructing five dedicated pickleball courts at Greenbriar Park (4600 Stringfellow Road, Fairfax).

The project will include the removal of some parking spaces and the addition of five new courts with perimeter fencing and gates to allow for controlled access.

Why Greenbriar Park?

The demand for pickleball courts continues to grow across Fairfax County, and after careful study, the Park Authority identified Greenbriar Park as the best location for new facilities. The park offers convenient access for nearby neighborhoods, ample parking, restroom facilities, and ADA accessibility. In addition, the site provides a naturalized buffer from surrounding residences, helping to minimize noise impacts while enhancing the overall player and community experience.

Construction Timeline and Impacts

Construction will be carried out by American Tennis Courts (ATC), with mobilization beginning in late August 2025. The project is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2025. During this time, all park amenities will remain open to the public with the exception of a portion of the Melville Lane parking lot, which will be closed for the duration of construction. Residents should also expect occasional construction traffic along Melville Lane while work is underway.
